Garlic, Elderberry Tea & a Resistance to Viruses

April 21, 2021

There are a lot of things we can do to strengthen our immune system and increase our resistance to COVID 19 or other viruses.

My strategy is to have a cup or two of elderberry tea every week (or every night during flu season). I do this because elderberry is believed to have a positive effect on the immune system.

Elderberries can be pricey, however, and elderberry bushes take time to become established. Garlic, on the other hand (which is thought to have antiviral qualities, as well as antimicrobial) is affordable and easy to grow.

For an antiviral effect most sources recommend that garlic should be taken raw.  I do this by steeping a single thinly sliced clove in honey over night (and then consuming the honey) or stepping several cloves in a bottle of olive oil and unfiltered cider vinegar and serving as a salad dressing. Please note that's it's important to do all of this under very clean conditions to prevent contamination.

There are a lot of other things you can do for the immune system that are just as important as supplementation. Many are basic.  They include adequate sleep, plenty of fruits and vegetables, reasonable exercise and minimal stress.

For most people, stress reduction is probably the most challenging.  My number one way of reducing stress is through prayer.

I find the Rosary especially effective!
